LIttle Things to Sew: Play Town

This months sew-along; Play Town.  In all honesty, I wasn't overly excited about it.  But I decided to do it anyway.  It turned out to be fun.  Glad I did it.  And as Silas was playing with them, and questioning me about them, he informed me that he needed about a dozen more of them, so that some REAL playing could happen.  Leave it to a 4 almost 5-year old.

The "shells" all sewn together except for the ends, waiting to be stuffed.

The pattern called for 4" wide foam, but I could only find 2" wide, so I doubled-up.

So two of each cut.  That was kind-a fun.  Used a serrated knife, sliced without any problems.

Stuffed them and sewed up the bottoms by hand, and wala.  House...

and car garage...

So I tried to do some cute ric-a-rac trim along the edge of the front roof, like hers, but as you can see, didn't really work out very well.  And I was feeling lazy, so I didn't unpick to fix it.  Oh well.  The kids like them, so that's what matters.

Little Things To Sew-Along: Bear Carrier

I've signed-up for a number of "alongs", did you notice?  First the weekly:  Bake 52.  Baking something each week from "The America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book".  Next, "Sewing For Boys" sew-along.  Sewing something monthly from the book by the same name.  And lastly, "Little Things To Sew" sew-along.  Also sewing something monthly from the book by the same name.  A personal goal this year, do more sewing/cooking, push myself a little.  Both are things that I really love, but I don't always make time to try new stuff.  So, I hoping that these "alongs", will help.

So, this month, our project was the Bear Carrier.  Hazel was the lucky recipient of this.  She was a little unsure what I was trying to do as I was strapping it around her to measure and snap pictures.  We'll see if she uses it.  Silas, on the other hand, asked me when I would be making one for him.  Maybe I chose the wrong child to sew this for?

Anyway, it's super cute, and really easy.  What a fun idea.  Let the kids carry a bear or doll around latched to their fronts... just like mom might do with a real infant.

I would recommend this pattern.  Can't wait to tackle the next project.  Hosted by a little gray.

rachel's apron...

It's been such a long time, so sorry. Now on to the goods...

I never did post about the other "mystery" project I was working on, so the time has come for the unveiling...

AN APRON!!! This cute reversable apron is for my youngest sister Rachel. She and her husband Paul just bought their first home, so I decided to make a little house warming gift for them. Rachel's favorite color is purple. She says she loves the apron, so it was a success!

The pattern is called "Emmeline Apron", you can take a gander at it here. It was a lot of fun to make, easy, and just SO cute. It's flattering for all body types too, so that's a plus. Now I just need to make one for myself.
